INTRO

Fels are the main playable type of character within the Rozetta campaign. They are Earthlings who have been cursed, and can therefore use magic and shapeshift.

Fels were created ten years ago due to a failed Contract Spell. Fels are Earthlings that can harness the magic of Mythicals, and transform into a smaller, less powerful version of a Mythical. Simply put, they are shapeshifters that are a cross between an Earthling and a Mythical.

THE CURSE

Most Earthlings that became Fels were cursed on the Night of Six Stars which occurred ten years ago. This was when the Fel Curse was first enacted. Those afflicted were seemingly selected at random, as no correlating factors have been identified between those who have been cursed. Since then, some individuals have spontaneously changed with no identifiable cause. New cases have become rarer as the years pass, but they still crop up occasionally.

Becoming Afflicted With The Curse

Some believe specific triggers that can cause an Earthling to turn into a Fel. While considered superstition, there seems to be some correlation between these instances and being afflicted by the Fel Curse:

  • Being bitten by a Seamonster / Seamonster Aberrant Fel.
  • Attempting Contract Magic.

First Generation Fels

First Generation Fels are Fels that were afflicted on the Night of Six Stars or soon thereafter. Their experience being a Fel may differ from that of Second Generation Fels, as they became cursed when the curse was still new and mysterious.

Second Generation Fels

Fels who were afflicted with the Fel Cure within the last 5 years (give or take). These Fels came about during a time where the curse was more well understood, and where the state of the world was less tumultuous.

Age Limits / Heritability

Those under the age of 5 do not seem to have the ability to become afflicted with the Fel Curse. Fels also do not seem to pass the curse onto their children. Fels typically do not experience any changes with fertility in relation to the curse.

Behaviour

Fels are, behaviourally, the same as Earthlings. Their personalities do not change upon being cursed. Some believe there are some innate changes in behaviour and thinking, but this can be chalked up to individualised reactions to being cursed.

PERCEPTION

Societal reception to the Fel Curse is mixed. Thankfully, things have calmed down somewhat in recent years, allowing Fels some reprieve. In some places of the world, however, hostility remains.

Some believe that Fels belong on the side of the Earthlings, and will tout that their purpose is to kill the Mythicals once and for all. Others believe that Fels exist to eradicate Earthlings, and secretly work on the side of the Mythicals.

No credible indication has been given to Fels as to their real purpose, if there is one. Each individual has been left to believe what best fits their narrative. Some use their power to gain the upper hand, either by helping others or taking what they want with force. Others prefer to lay low and keep their Fel status hidden.

There are growing movements between Earthlings and Fels to find a cure for the curse. These communities focus on acceptance and bringing people together when many are still divided.

Occupations

Some specific occupations have been taken up by Fels. While not exclusive to them, their powers provide them a significant advantage. These occupations include:

  • Bounty Hunters: Fels that use their powers to hunt other Fels, either problematic individuals, or any individuals at all in places where hostility remains. Some strongly believe that Fels exist to benefit Earthlings, in which case, they focus on Hunting Mythical Hunters.
  • Mythical Hunters: Those who believe their job is killing the Mythicals. They either hunt solo, or work with local military forces.
  • Doctors / Health Care Workers: Those with Rosary Magic may take up roles in health care. There is some skepticism about Rosary Magic healing in some places, however (some individuals believe it to be ‘evil’, that it may spread the Fel Curse, or that there may be side-effects).

ABERRANT FELS

Unlike with Mythicals, Aberrant Fels (Fels that are a cross between two Mythical Species) are extremely common. They work the way normal Fels do!

Aberrant Seamonster Fels

While Fels cannot be pure Seamonsters, they can be Seamonster Aberrants (so a cross between something else and a Seamonster). A unique quality these Fels possess is that Seamonsters will completely ignore them, as if they cannot see them. They may also have the ability to breathe underwater.

FORMS

⟢⟢⟢

Like Mythicals, Fels are shapeshifters. They have both a Beast Form and a Walking Form, but also have a Resting Form and sometimes Mixed Forms. Which form a Fel prefers is up to the individual. In many places, it's only socially acceptable to be in one’s Resting Form.

BEAST FORM

Beast forms are typically quadrupedal and resemble normal animals instead of anthros. This will be a Fel’s largest and ‘fullest’ form, where they fully take on the characteristics of their Fel species, having little or no characteristics remaining of their Earthling species.

WALKING FORM

A Fel’s anthropomorphic shifted form. This form can be larger than their standard size, and can still have some traits from their Earthling species (like the Beast Form, these can also be eliminated). This form is also quite powerful and rivals the power of one’s Beast Form, trading some strength for more mobility.

RESTING FORM

A Fel’s ‘de-shifted’ form is where they are most like an Earthling. Some individuals are indistinguishable from other Eathlings in their Resting Form, others may have small traits that give away their Fel status, (scales, feathers, etc.).

In some individuals, a Resting Form may be completely void of any Earthling traits (basically being, for example, a complete reptile, bird, or horse anthro). These individuals are sometimes considered not to even have a Resting Form, and simply cannot revert from their Walking Form.

MIXED FORMS

Unique to Fels, some individuals can develop and maintain ‘in between’ forms. These are essentially forms that exist between categories. An example would be a Walking form that is larger and more ‘beastly’, as a representation of a Walking/Beast Form.

WINGS?

Individuals with wings can decide when/if their wings appear in any form. Wings can vary in size.

CELESTIAL ROBES

⟢⟢⟢

Celestial Robes are magical projections that Fels can use as clothing— this helps to assist with shapeshifting.

Celestial Robes can morph and change to fit the wearer. They typically take on a form that is most suited to the individual. Individuals can have many kinds of robes that change depending on their needs (e.g. if one wanted to go swimming, their robes could shift to something more suitable for the occasion).

Celestial Robes cannot be removed and retained. Once taken off, they disappear. They will once again reappear once the user wills them to.

Some Examples of How Robes May Manifest:

  • An individual that prefers comfort over style will likely have very flexible and loose-fitting Celestial Robes.
  • Individuals who want to show less skin/fur will have more covering with their Robes.
  • An individual who has a strong sense of style may have very detailed and/or specific Robes.

Things That Celestial Robes Can Contain:

  • Clothes in multiple pieces (e.g. separate top and pants).
  • Different textures or weight (usually they are silky to the touch).
  • Patterns.
  • Jewelry items (cannot be removed and retained or protect the user in any way. Will look real but will be soft and squishy to the touch).
  • Usable pockets (yay!).

Things That Don't Come With Celestial Robes:

  • Anything bulky or anything that could be used as a weapon and/or a detachable appendage, (e.g, spikes, chains, etc.).
  • Anything overly restrictive (e.g. functional corsets).
  • Good shoes (they won’t protect your feet in any meaningful way).
  • Armor (anything that can shield a wearer from damage/anything rigid).
