INTRO

Earthlings are the main species of people within the world of Rozetta.

In this world, humans do not exist— instead, there are ‘Earthlings’, who are all bipedal animal people with mammalian traits. Earthlings can be a mixture of any animal and/or traits from the list below. They can be a singular animal (e.g. a cat), a mix of two animals, (e.g. a cat/dog), or have traits from many animals!

Terminology for calling oneself a ‘cat’ or a ‘dog’ (for example) still exist, and some terms even exist for crosses between two species, (e.g. calling oneself a ‘puppycat’ if you’re a mix between a cat and a dog). Because there is a large pool of traits, these terms can sometimes be arbitrary. They are typically determined by the individual. An Earthling that simply looks like a cat (for example) may refer to themself as a cat, even if they don’t fit the definition species wise!

ANATOMY

⟢⟢⟢

GENERAL

  • Earthling anatomy is mostly human-like! Furries, but with bodies resembling humans.
  • Height minimum (without pre-existing conditions) is 4’0” ft / 122 cm
  • Height maximum (without pre-existing conditions) is 7’5’ft / 226 cm
  • Just like humans, Earthlings wear clothes! This follows human-equivalency with some variation to account for extra body parts such as tails, spines, and fur.

REQUIREMENTS

Note: these requirements assume the individual has no pre-existing conditions.

  • Must have 2 legs and 2 arms (no centaur, multi-arm or naga type body shapes).
  • Must have opposable thumbs/hands that can grip.
  • Must have general human-like proportions (avoid some body-shapes found in Zootopia, for example, where legs are really short and torsos are really long. A little bit of this styling can still be applied however, it just can't be extreme!)

VARIATIONS

  • Both plantigrade and digitigrade feet are valid! (feet that stand on their toes, like animals, or feet that are flat, like humans).
  • Earthlings can have defined chests/breasts, or have a flatter chest, regardless of sexual characteristics.
  • Earthlings can have hair like people, or be ‘bald’ in the way a normal animal would be!
  • Faces can be drawn to look more simplified, or more animal-like.

COLOURS AND PATTERNS

Pictured: Some possible colour variations for Earthlings (Artwork by AkaPanuka)

  • Earthlings can have any kind of patterns (regardless of what animals they are inspired by) and can come in a variety of different colours!
  • Earthling’s colours/markings do not need to follow the rules of their feral counterparts.
  • Pinks, purples, blues, and greens are more muted in colour. Any hue can (in theory) be used, however Earthlings don’t have neons or saturated hues in these colours.

EYES

Pictured: Examples of acceptable eyes (artwork by AkaPanuka)

Eyes can be any colour and can be based off of any animal that can make up part of an Earthling!

  • Eyes can be natural coloured or neon-coloured. They can be two-toned as well!
  • Eye scleras can be any colour.
  • Pupils can be any natural shape (slits, horizontal bars like sheep, etc).
  • Heterochromia is allowed, and both eyes can be styled differently!

FLESH/TEETH

Pictured: Examples of acceptable flesh/mouth/teeth colours (artwork by AkaPanuka)

  • Flesh and tongue colours can be any colours found on animals that can make up Earthlings.
  • Flesh and teeth can have tints, however they cannot be brighter or neon colours.

BLOOD

Pictured: Examples of acceptable Earthling blood colours (artwork by AkaPanuka)

  • Earthling blood can come in various shades of red!
  • Some Earthling blood is lighter than human blood, some is darker. Blood may also be a bit more purple or a bit more orange compared to Human blood (but not completely purple or orange).

BASELINE SPECIES

Earthlings can have traits from any mammalian species (alive or extinct) EXCEPT for horses, goats, and hominids. Whales and dolphins are included under the umbrella and are acceptable species to draw from.

EXCLUDED SPECIES

Animals/traits that are NOT included under the Earthling umbrella.
These are creatures that are the base for some Mythicals, and therefore are not considered to be Earthlings.

  • Horses/equidae species (includes zebras, donkeys, mules, and other animals under the equidae umbrella).
  • Goats.
  • Avian species/birds.
  • Reptiles/dinosaurs/crocodilians.
  • Fish/cephalopods/Molluscs (includes sharks and seahorses).
  • Insects/arachnids.
  • Turtles and tortoises.
  • Amphibians.
  • Extinct species belonging to the above categories.

PHYSIOLOGY

⟢⟢⟢

SOLIANS, SAALIANS, AND MERUS

Earthlings are divided into three categories based on specific traits. These are called Solians, Saalians, and Merus.

SOLIANS

Solians tend to have mostly carnivorous/predator animal traits, and require meat as a staple part of their diet. While they can eat vegetables and plants (and may even need to occasionally), they are also obligate carnivores. Hypersolians also exist as 5% of the population. Hypersolians have an intolerance to plants and plant-based foods, and can become sick after ingesting large quantities. They are considered to be almost completely carnivorous, and rarely carry traits of herbivorous animals.

SAALIANS

Saalians tend to have mostly herbivorous/prey animal traits, and require plant-based foods to be a staple part of their diet. While they can eat meat (and may even need to occasionally), they are also obligate herbivores. Hypersaalians also exist as 5% of the population. Hypersaalians have an intolerance to meat and animal products, and can become sick after ingesting large quantities. They are considered to be almost completely herbivorous, however physical traits may vary. Saalians rarely possess traits found exclusively on predator animals.

MERUS

Merus make up the bulk of the population. Merus are omnivorous, and tend to fall somewhere in the middle of the Saalian and Solian spectrum. They typically have traits of both prey and predator animals, however, the expression of such traits is not always obvious. The easiest way to tell if someone is a Merus is through their diet. Merus can consume both animal products and plant-based foods without complication, there is however, still a spectrum. Some Merus still require meat or plant-matter in their diet, and some can forgo one or the other entirely. The line between Merus and Solian/Saalian can be blurry at times— the way one defines oneself is often influenced by diet, visual traits, and linage. Those on the fringes of the spectrum tend to decide where they fall based on what fits them best for their medical needs, and/or what makes the most sense for them and their identity.

BEHAVIOURAL/PHYSICAL TRAITS

While mostly similar to humans, Earthlings may have traits and tendencies that come from the animals that they are based off of.

Example 1: An Earthling based off of a wolf may be able to bark and howl, and feel more at home in groups.

Example 2: An Earthling based off of an otter may be able to hold their breath for longer underwater, and may enjoy swimming.

Example 3: An Earthling based off of a cat might be extra flexible and may be able to see better in the dark.

These traits are not mandatory, but can be given to OCs for extra flavour! Traits can be mixed and matched as well. It is possible, for example, an Earthling that looks like a canid, but has the ability to hiss and meow like a cat.
