LOREBOOKS

Inhabiting the waters across all the land are the Seamonsters, the only mythical beast that even other mythical beasts fear. Seamonsters are strange fish and/or bug-like creatures that only reside in water. Some are large and beastly, some are small and scarily anthropomorphic looking. All should be treated with caution. Unlike other mythical beasts, they do not appear to possess heightened cognitive abilities or sentience. It is impossible for us to know what they think or feel.

Although some are docile, many are unpredictable— violent, even. It is because of them that we fear the water…

OCEANS

The oceans are home to the largest quantity of Seamonsters (hence the name). Dispersed through her waters, these creatures lie in wait— ready to attack any unsuspecting sailor. Only the bravest of us all dare sail upon a vessel.

The only functional ports in our world are in Lamortplage and Drakenmore (Drakenmore’s port is also is quite small and scarcely used)

LAKES

Seamonsters also reside in lakes (sometimes these are called Lakemonsters ). While the population of Seamonsters is often smaller in lakes, one must still exercise caution. Some lakes have been deemed as ‘safe lakes’, as all identified Seamonsters have been slain. It is important to note, however, that Seamonsters can be crafty. Just because a lake has been deemed ‘safe’, it does not necessarily mean that it is Seamonster free.

RIVERS

Rivers are the only bodies of water that are almost guaranteed to be free of Seamonsters. Rivermonsters (sometimes called), are extremely rare. It is believed that the constantly following water filters out most Seamonsters into the ocean. Almost all city states and towns are built around rivers and streams, as they provide the only safe access to fresh water.

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

There are rumors of sightings of Seamonsters ‘sprouting legs’ and walking on land in recent years. The thought of such a thing is truly terrifying…
